Hector Maclean is one of the most distinctive voices in British fashion today.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Hector launched his eponymous London-based label in 2022. Known for its sculptural silhouettes and emotionally charged storytelling, the label sits at the intersection of fashion, performance, and visual art. Collections are often presented through immersive, multi-sensory shows, where garments, sound, movement, and light come together to build atmosphere and narrative. Each piece explores a dichotomy between structural intention and poetic expression, where allegory and feeling converge.

Maclean is one of the oldest Highland clans, with its ancestral seat on the Isleof Mull. But Hector’s own lineage stretches much further through war torn Poland, occupied France, and rural Zimbabwe. His work is a striking juxtaposition of tradition and modernity, shaped by this rich, multifaceted heritage. At the core of his design philosophy is the clan’s motto: ‘Bàs no Beatha’ – ‘Death or Life.’ A near-fatal accident that left him with two broken legs gave this phrase visceral truth, and its spirit continues to echo through his collections bold, honest, and reflective of both the scars we carry and the strength they reveal.

Yet alongside this weight and symbolism runs a spirit of playful experimentation. The son of a dancer and an artist, Hector was raised in spaces where creativity was part of daily life. That upbringing forged a design language that moves between elegance and disorder, romance and radicalism a tension that defines the label’s unique aesthetic.
